He broke down one year in donegal and while waiting for the stage to clear he was handing out religious leaflets  it's just his nature ( don't curse )

Anyways well done to Neil Kirkpatrick he drove the nuts of that Evo and finished well

Just reading up on Ballentine who was excluded from the event. Bloody Hell !

According to the report of Meeting of the Stewards @ 20.00hrs. 18th.April, 2014. into Car 30 ...................

Regarding Advertising of a Religious Nature, under FIA ISC Article 11.9.2.f., and Article 12.3.1.a. for a breach of FIA Regional Rally Sporting Regulation Article 18.7.

Decision 1 states that the driver would not be allowed to start Day 2 of the event, unless the advertising was covered up.

Spotted it yesterday at Hamiltons Folly and was wondering why i didn't see him on any of the stages today. Bit of a shame, but yeah fair play to him.

likely no one but the event was an FIA event and thus rules must be adhered to.

fair play to him for putting his faith before rallying and refusing to cover them up even though it meant he could not continue

Should have read the regs prior to entering.

Doesn't offend me at all, but its a rule that covers all bases, so it should be adhered to

you have done enough competing to know that you NEVER read the regs in full per event once a car is built to a certain spec lol

the only regs that need read proper are the car build ones

Ermmm, nope, every single event, every single word of the regs

Too many people out there like to get all high and mighty with the rule book at the results counting stage, we make sure we have every base covered. Currently have a couple of clubs shouting that our car has been banned. It hasn't, it's being rebuilt again and once again it will remain probably the only 100% legit car out there.

EDIT: that sounds like I am never wrong/know-it-all. I do make mistakes. But the vast majority of the time I will know the regs of every aspect of what we are doing better than those running the event because I have a genuine interest in them and a genuine interest in staying on the right side of them. Unfortunately in this country regs are like the bible and people think they can take their own version of it and preach with it, not realising it is not to be read between the lines, the blue book and Supplementary Regs are to be taken very vseriously at times to prevent the likes of what happened to the fella above.

I know rules are rules and all that, but Ballentine has bought/built the car/tyres/petrol/race fuel/insurance and all others, It's because of this wee country he can't have it on FTF like (n)

And it wouldn't bother me or anyone I know if it was up both sides or all over the car

totally agree

but if the rule wasnt there as a blanket regulation then no doubt someone would end up with burning tricolours or something stupid on their cars. Highly unlikely, but i would rather see one pissed off preacher than hundreds of people wanting a man hunt for someone with something really stupid on their car.

It turns out he also had a 4 mins penalty for a rule infringement regarding tyres.

So I'd say he didn't continue because he was out of the running but likes to be seen to be upholding his faith. Just my opinion of course.

Passed this car early on Saturday morning on the hard shoulder of the M1, with bonnet up and on the phone. We assumed it was in mechanical bother and had retired when the car didn't appear later.

Got to speak with @Neil Kirkpatrick in service at the finish. He was a happy man! Also, solid finish for @RCT

That was a tough rally, with some monumental stages. Saturday turned out to be a total car killer

I would agree with the comment about the spectator stages drawing a load of people without a clue, but I went to both of them anyway. In ards I found that a lot of people left quite early and it was much better after that. In Lisburn I stood at the top hairpin and found that most of the people were proper rally fans standing round there. Was great to watch - especially the last half a dozen or so cars, who's drivers didn't have as much experience as some others. Rudy Tate in the sunbeam was definitely not the most clinical around the hairpin, but good to watch doing 2 donuts after positioning himself wrong. Was gonna hit the stages after but I had got fried on Friday and the sun was killing me so decided best to stay out of the soon.

When are the next decent Motorsport events over here?

Somehow managed to completely miss this was on, lol :grinning:

Drove through Newtownards on Friday morning, bales and crash barriers everywhere. That was the first hint something was up ;)

Then met a load of rally cars driving into Belfast from Ballygowan in the afternoon, hint two!

And finally a stack of them lining up behind Ballydugan in Downpatrick - definitely something on then, lol :p

I am clean and utter ballxed, been on the go from 9am Thurs and not long in the door !

I thought you had given up motorsport/rallying :innocent: Knew you would not be able to stay away for long!

Passed a lot of the cars on the opposite side of the M1 yesterday. They were heading Lisburn direction.

Took a drive down to the service area but there wasn't much happening.

Hung up the race and orange suit and will only lift the camera for a few things. Donegal and the ulster are ones not to miss and with this having erc I thought it would be worth coming out of retirement as I got paid to cover it lol

Glad I did as had a fab weekend and the support for the images has been awesome

In terms of rallying, the Monaghan Rally next Sunday. Looked up the entry last night after hearing a few good things about it and it has a fearsome modified entry - probably the fastest Escort Mk2s in the country, plus 6 or so WRC machines.

Week after that is the third round of the Irish Tarmac Championship in Killarney. Watching rally cars charge through Moll's Gap should be on any motorsport fan's bucket list.

Really enjoyed the COI this year, congratulations to Neil and Sarah very well done. Great achievement and one I would have loved to have done in my younger days.

Excellent stages, big crowds, great weather. Couldn't fault the Circuit of Ireland in any way. Looking forward to watching the highlights and youtube videos over the next few days.
