Ashley Sutton had some day yesterday. I'm surprised the car was still in one piece by the end of race 3, he ragged that thing silly. Great stuff to watch.

Turkington wasn't too happy with Plato in race 2. Great drive from Sutton in race 3 though.

Bad day out for the Honda's.

Optimistic punt up the inside of Turkington in Race 2, Turks didn't see him, Collard took advantage, got past both.
Sounds suspect just by that description.

He seems to have this really obvious tell to say if he is lying or not where he stutters his words. Wonder if he did that post race lol

I don't know. I flicked back to the F1 coverage at that point. I can't stand to watch his give interviews anyway, I find him very weaselly.

Honda could switch to rear-wheel drive in 2017

Honda factory squad Team Dynamics have declared they could be forced to make the switch to rear-wheel drive in 2017 to keep up with the fast-developing Subaru Levorg of Team BMR, which three-time champion Matt Neal describes as the “Frankenstein” of the current technical regulations.
btcc-croft-2016-colin-turkington-subaru-team-bmr.jpg

Honda had a nightmare weekend at Croft, with just one top ten finish between the team’s drivers Neal and Gordon Shedden, while the BMWs and Subarus of West Surrey Racing and Team BMR controlled the pace, only hampered when the rain played into the Triple Eight MG team’s favour in Race 3.

2009 and 2014 champion Colin Turkington won Race 1 and finished third in Race 2, and despite the team missing one whole round of the championship at Thruxton and a slow start at Brands Hatch and Donington Park, the rear-wheel driver, boxer-engined Levorg GT has been the fastest car since its return at Oulton Park, scoring two poles and two race wins, admittedly without success ballast.

“(Turkington) will be there at the end of the year if not winning it,” said Neal to TouringCarTimes.

“That car is the death of these regulations because whatever they do, they can’t slow it enough. It’s too good around the corners because of what they’ve allowed it. (It) will be unstoppable, or we’ve all got to spend £100k on our cars and try and do the same,” he added.

neal_16062203.jpg

The Subaru Levorg GT as with all Subarus is four-wheel drive in its road-going configuration, but with four-wheel drive banned under the BTCC’s technical regulations, the team have had to configure the car as a rear-wheel drive car, which Neal explains is an option that has opened up for Honda with the upcoming tenth-generation Civic model.

“The next Civic is a four-wheel drive car so we can do it. OK, it doesn’t have a boxer engine, but we can do what they’ve done and we would just have to go rear-wheel drive with them, that’s what (TOCA) have pushed the formula into,” explained Neal.

“That car is Frankenstein,” he added referring back to Team BMR’s Subaru. “I have nothing against the team, fair play to them, but it’s just like the Audi with four-wheel drive, it’s like the Alfa with the wings and the diffs, where do you go? It’s the thin end of the wedge.”

The team could make the switch to the new Civic as soon as next year when the hatchback version of the Civic FC goes on sale in 2017. The saloon version from the China Touring Car Championship is pictured above.

“On current form, we’d have to change,” said Neal. “It’s been spoken about doing it next year, but that’s up to Honda. The new car comes out in January, but it’s whether we switch to the new Civic in 2017, or whether they want us to continue to promote the Type R which carries on until 2018.”

So Subaru have read the rule book better and punted for the right bet? Big deal, not like Honda have had a few good years with their own creative rule interpretations :innocent:

Surprised to see the Hondas so far back this weekend though, was there something else going on?

Good result for Turkington and the Subarus (y) Got a bit hairy with the Plato overtake, lol, but it was all fair and a genuine attempt so fair play.

Finally caught up with Race 2 and 3. The late lunge by Plato was fair enough, the space was there but just a shame Turkington was committed because im sure he would have conceeded.

Think it would have been fair if it wasnt your team mate, but a tad risky to do that on your team mate. Easily could have wounded both cars.

lol I missed that point entirely. You're right there, onus on Plato to be a good team mate.

Shedden got Hondas first pole in 3 years apparently followed rather closely (0.015sec close) Colin Turkington.

1sec splitting the top 14, not as close as its has been before but once again shows why this is one of the best if not the best rave series in motorsport.

I like that plan, lol

By the way, what happened to the RallyX on Quest? Not seen it on for a good while now. Summer break or something?

That was wild! Race two was bad enough, but the start of three was just off the scale.

Brilliant racing though!

Some rough racing from Shedden again too. Amazing how everyone else can keep it reasonably civil, but he goes around barging about like it were dodg'ems or something. Ah well.

Oh, and BTCC still beats F1, lol  Like one of the commentators said, the leader of the championship changes not just between race weekends, but between individual races

Dido. Was sitting on the sofa open-mouthed at the driving in race 3. Is it always like that? I've seen cleaner laps in a Nutt's Corner demolition derby.

No, first meeting back after the summer break and they seem to go a bit mad, coupled with a narrow track and you get carnage.

Do tend get a few race weekends like that throughout the year tho.

It can be a bit of banger racing sometimes when the red mist comes on, lol :grinning: But not huge accidents like yesterday.

A major part of BTCC is the equaliser system of ballast weights, reverse grids, etc., constantly keeping the playing field level and not allowing anyone to run away with things from some small performance advantage. Means it is always close, always flat out, every position contested and defended, throughout the field. And everyone in with a chance on a good day.

You will never see "lift and coast" or "tyre management" or "burn-off phase" or anything else like that in BTCC. Just flat out racing from start to finish.
