This has been all over my social media feeds this weekend..... and I have to say.... I ruddy LOVE it!!

£26k is an excellent price point is it not? 226bhp if its similar to the upcoming Cupra.

Would say the wheels and side skirts would be tamed down but could see the rest making it to production. Class looking!

Hopefully they can put this into production as it sits. Looks great.

Schäfer said the production version of the ID GTI would be revealed in 2026 and be on sale in early 2027.

That's so far, far away.

Plus another 24 months wait for delivery like the Golf R's recently

This looks exactly like what I would expect the next generation golf/polo to look like, why don't they just call it a golf.
Makes no sense to me to kill off a nearly 50 year old name.

Will certainly put the Cat among the Pigeons if it does come in cheaper. £26k seems cheap in this day and age.

I like it, but then I would - I've had Golfs for 20 years

Some more tactile buttons inside would be nice.

2026 is a long way away financially for them too. What is it... Approaching $200bn in debt at the minute?

How is that even possible to stay in business? Crazy numbers

Too cheap, it'll never be 26k wouldn't surprise me if it was double
If the hatchback Tesla arrives at it's estimated price (£18k last I read) then VW are going to need to be able to cut costs.

Spotted this tonight.... Hopefully it embeds in the post ok:

That looks very cool. And there’s a trend here for EV hot hatches, parking if they are actually good cars or otherwise, doing something to appeal to the enthusiast can’t be knocked.

Alpine A290 anyone? (I actually think the R5 EV looks better)

£26k may be the target starting price for the ID2, but absolutely no way will the "GTi" version be anything short of £40k and possibly £45k.

Looks excellent, though, hopefully they can squeeze a decent sized battery in there somewhere and not be limited to 50kwh or less.

VW have been charging as much as they think they can get away with for EV's so it will be interesting to see if it gets near that price. The competition is as good if not better than VW in the EV market at the moment and many are better value.

If it looks like that for that price I would take one. (Or ID take one lol)
