and got a test max for going round a pylon twice (also, doh).

Wouldn't have thought that was a fail but maybe I'm going by autotest rules. Your only adding to your own time by going round it again not a fail as such in my eyes.

Sorta thought that TBH, too late to query now anyway I guess so I'll just chalk it down to experience. Still had a good day's craic.:grinning:
I thought it was a bit rough in places too and we still don't have our sumpguard fitted . By the time we were on the second loop we were warming up to it and by the third, we were loving it.

Are you sure you went round it twice in the right direction at least? I've made that mistake a time or two!

2 ways to look at it
1, you added an extra manoeuvre to the test and therefore cost yourself more time so can be overlooked and the time taken for the test is recorderd
or
2, you added an extra manoeuvre to the test so didn't do the test as per diagram therefore a fail is given

It's all up to the marshals and organisers interpretation of the rules and how they apply penalties etc.

Yup, not complaining as they're entitled to take view 2 so as I said, it's chalked down to experience. (y)

Thought the stages were great, well run event and credit to the marshalls standing out in the rain.

We failed 2 tests. Missed the stop box on the first test altogether and wrong way round the cones on another.
Times would have been respectable otherwise. Lesson, get the manoeuvres right before trying to go quickly.

Brilliant fun though, enjoyed it rightly.

Technically it's a fail as it's the wrong route. I agree in this case it seems harsh as you already take longer but then you rely on a marshal to decide if you lost time or not. Simpler if a fail is a fail regardless.

Yeah wasn't disputing the decision just wasn't clear on the rules for lanes and how they differ from autotesting.

Great shot @peespeed. Not sure if I almost ran out of lock or was driving to the limit of the car.....

After attending the Magherafelt Lanes Rally last year, a wise man once said...

I found the 1st test a bit nerve wrecking to be honest... you could fly on the grippy tarmac bits, but step onto the fir needles and you'd be spat off course in an instant (down in among the trees!)..
...wish I'd listened to that boy!..

This happened on test 10, half way through the 2nd loop of tests. Bit of a shame as we felt we were starting to get settled in and make up for what had felt like just an average 1st loop. After the 1st pass through this test, the time keeper told us we'd been the fastest so far... guess I should have taken that as a sign to go a little easier. We didnt realise until later that we were lying 3rd after that 1st loop of tests.

A sweeping left, into a sweeping right over a slight crest... a little tail out into the left put us onto the pine needles for huge tail out going into the right, tail clipped a tree and spun us 180, down in among the trees. I was sort of wondering if the tail was going to clip but was hoping to stay on the road and was beginning to take the lock off in anticipation, but it just seemed to catch and fling the nose... Discovered today that we kind of 'hooked' the tree with the rear bumber cross member..

Shortly after we came to rest, a silhouette apperared on the horizon.. A special thanks to our @peespeed (who'd been snapping at the next hard right) for helping us out. And apologies for making you miss a few nice photos of a certain white escort that was directly behind us!

Saw you both standing at the side but couldn't see the car so knew in that section it wouldn't have been a small one. Pity as you were obviously going well. :worried:
Can't actually see the pics but I assume the wee car is a bit bruised.

Oh dear, that looks a bit beyond some sledge and filler action. I suppose someone could straighten it out but it'd be difficult. :worried:
Goes to show the sort of damage small-ish diameter trees can do, you could almost measure the diameter of the tree trunk from the shape of your rear quarter. Ouch.
Hope you get it or something else sorted soon so you're out there again. (y)

..So, we're finally up and running again. Sick looking at filler and trying to paint.... although drying the water based undercoat was a doddle thanks to the best tool in the box!...

With the PMC's event cancelled and QUB's Summer Lanes almost 2 months away, we're thinking of of trying Autotest Drivers Club's Multi-venue Autotest. The MG Car Club's Derek Walker Trial back at the start of the year was good craic with a few bits of reversing and nose throws etc, and was good value too, so hoping for something similar. If anyone else fancies it then regs and entry form are out..

And plenty of photos from last year's event courtesy of @peespeed

Great job Davy! Been looking at the regs for the MVAT and was thinking it would be a bit of craic too. :grinning:

..Just to keep the thread 'archives' up to date... Whilst it's not a Targa Rally, I think the Autotest Drivers Club multivenue deserves a mention. It was a brilliant event from start to finish. 6 tests, run 3 times each, and you got to walk them on your first visit to them. The whole event ran like clockwork, and the sunshine was a bonus for any marshalls / photographers / spectators.

We've done the MG Car Club's Derek Walker trial, and the Autotest Drivers Club's Lee Lucus Trial now. They've both been slightly different in thier own ways, yet both have been great fun, competitive, and great value for money... i.e a full days craic for driver & navigator for an entry fee of around £50-60. It's a perfect half way house between clubman level autotesting and targa rallying too, with just basic reverse manouvres... There's definately something exciting about trying to 'fling the tail' around, aiming for two pylons... and if you can do it without engaging reverse then you've reached 'legend' status!... (not quite there yet!.. tho we seen some others do it!)

Looking forward to 18th July for the summer lanes!.. Feels like ages since Dungannon's Springfling!

These events are definately getting dearer, did QUB not used to be one of the cheapest? at around £60-65 entry?
