Sorry didn’t know you were either or would hve caught up for a coffee indeed. I did see a few local boys there but never saw you or mr Cooper. What was the craic with all the paintworks and more importantly that horrendous 15 tone 8 series bmw that won an award. I really am struggling to write a report and say nice things about some of the stuff there :worried: i know auld folks don’t value paintwork but it was bad even on some of the very expensive cars for sale :/

I’ve been thinking about this a bit more. I suppose at the end of the day a show like this is only made up people’s own cars. Everyone is going to have a different standard when it comes to acceptable paint finish, but to them it’s still their pride and joy. Kilbroney was a good example of this I thought. Some of the paint was absolutely terrible, yet the (usually old) guys were still there, proud as punch of what they were displaying. I think it’s important to look past quality, and focus on the cars themselves and the sheer variety of stuff on display. It would be different if it was a Salon Prive concours event.

I remember 1 year when I went to DubShed there was a car there (a member on here) that was a major attraction and folk were going mad for it, but I’ll never forget seeing it up close and being gobsmacked at the finish.

This. Sure, some of the stuff at Classic show is not perfect, but that's always been the nature of that show. Some minters, others are 50% completed projects or 'in progress', some is rare but still used daily, other stuff is just old. It's not a concours show and it's not full of young modified owners with an interest in detailing like we have at many shows over here.

It's still amazing to see a Stratos or XJ220 or 993 Turbo or whatever even if it's not aesthetically perfect.

Aww, no pics of the V8 World Cup Marina rally car? 8-( Very accurate replica with all the works rear turret kit, tramp bars etc and a lot of detail / pics from the original driver and team. Unfortunately, the original car didn't finish due to an axle failure and no spares due to it being a private entry, ended up as a drag car eventually. The chap who built the replica has plenty of competition experience and also has an Escort Cosworth rally car and the Marina is a fully MSUK logbooked car that he uses on events too, so it's not a liveried up standard car with an exhaust tubing roll cage like a lot of the rally replicas out there.

With show cars and their standard, I'd prefer to see a useable car in reasonable condition than a load of perfect concourse cars that rarely move under their own steam. The classic car world and show cars in general has a lot of snobbery with people looking down on cars that aren't 'perfect'. It should be a broad church with minters and munters alike being celebrated imo.

MSA allowing something interesting to compete and logbook it. Must have been a rare day when that was signed off 😂

Tbh, there's a lot of inverse snobbery too where people think something can't be kept well and used. Agree that it should be a broad church though (albeit a lot of owners clubs tend to have the worst people involved).

Have been in a few OC's and owners groups over the years and they seemed to be a place that people who loved the sound of their own voices went to upset other people. Having said that, had some great runs and craic in amongst all the sh1te too.

Definitely lanyard and name badge fanatics involved. Easily identified and avoided.

Some lovely stuff, a Mk2 GTE Astra Estate conversion was fantastic and the guy who owned it was just as great to chat to. Plenty of people there you’d chat away to as if it was a local Cars and Coffee. We were embroiled in a whole Ford/Lancia chat on the train.

Was that your Monte over with him earlier in the year? His comment on Facebook made me think it might’ve been yours.
