Help Please, 2001 fabia door lock problem

A mate has just been on the phone with a problem with his fabia, the car has central locking and the key only can go in the drivers door in which the barrel has lost all resistance and is just allowing the key to spin and not open the doors.

Have had a quick look on google etc and found some things to try but was wondering if anyone had any actual experience of this and what did they do to gain access to the car again.

Any help greatly appreciated.

sounds like the paddle has become faulty.
Happened on my octavia, polo and arose.

Managed to get it opened with a pick, new parts ordered

i have a spare set sitting here if your stuck - althought i have a funny feeling the paddle length will be different on various models

He has ordered a new lock kit anyway, should be here on friday for him.
