@Eager - Personally I love them. It's technically brilliant in it's own right, but rightfully they didn't name it "Skyline" as I guess they know that would have annoyed people.

There has been quite a few cars over the years that killed a name. The hatch Impreza for one. I like them now, they're a gorgeous motor, but I still think to this day they shouldn't have been called "Impreza". .. Personally I don't think Nissan wouldn't have killed the name if they did call it a Skyline though.

Bound to be immense fun off road though, I'm thinking quite steep entry angles to corners.

I would not stop to look at a R35 gtr. Just no interest. They killed skyline when they made the 35.

lol explain? entitled to your opinion of course but I'm just intrigued. Is it because they changed from a straight 6 to a V6 ???

Well first one thing ya can not discount is it's a hell of a car. No doubt. Serious bit of kit out of the box.

But for me it's down to a few reasons. One being there everywhere. Yet I cannot remember the last I seen a 33 or 34 gtr on the road. Just to common
They also dumped the skyline name so it was more acceptable to own 'down the golf club' as a skyline always screamed little boy racer type image.
Nissan released the old skylines knowing fine and well they would be tuned. At first Nissan didn't want anything tuned or messed with. It's like they tried to get away from that scene. Yet it's what made them so appealing to most owners.
Moving away from the rb26 too I suppose but there is no doubt it'd replacement is great. Just sad really that they killed it off after being in development and use so long

Just not for me. 34 gtr for me. I remember driving my 34 gtt down toward newry and passed 3 gtr's. In a few minutes.

The fact that it was the only model officially sold in the UK market might just have something to do with there being a few more of them and the fact they didnt want it to be messed with, they legally had to offer warranty you know lol
34 GTR is lovely but ancient by all accounts, just sitting in one makes you realise how much progress has been made over the past number of years but theres no doubt on the rip of the RB engine being missed

Guess we won't be seeing you in a 35 then soon

I would rather buy the one that is going to be worth a few quid in a few years :p

I had eyed up a bay side blue one recently and had to have a serious chat with myself to resist.

One thing that does sadden me is there is a few 34's locked up in the north that have not been out in a long time.

Nissan still make Skylines. An R35 is a GT-R, not a Skyline.

Middlehurst did bring in R34 Skyline GT-Rs for the UK market on behalf of Nissan UK. But they were but a handful.

Andy Middlehursts 80 cars don't really count though do they? :confounded: They took the Skyline name in a whole new direction for sure.

They are or were always referred to as UK cars. Process was the same as how Ralliart UK treated Lancer Evos. The UK cars did have their own unique spec, albeit not that wildly different from JDM V-Spec cars.
@SMURF1 might know more as he's the Skyline expert. :grinning:

Here's the answer from Andy Middlehurst himself at 3m 55 secs in. Forgot they started with the R33.

33 GTR was the first "UK" Skyline variant sold directly to the uk market, but I totally agree with Eager,as much as the GTR is an incredible machine,it wont have the Skyline GTR status simply because of the numbers sold, the skyline GTR albeit sold in very very small numbers in the uk both 33 and 34 compared to the JDM,UKDM and USDM market of the GTR whuch have saturated the market,as Eager also says you would regularly see GTRs on the road,as for Skyline GTRs..the last one ive seen on the road up this direction was probably my own :p they are simply so rare, hence thats what my choice of next car is going to be as a very long term project and also and investment years down the road if needed.

Also again as mentioned by Eager, its such a shame that there is some serious Skyline GTRs tucked up in garages across the north that have lay there for quite a few years

Friend of mine has a UK supplied R33 GTR. Think hes the first owner after it sat in a UK dealer for a while.
