Hi folks. I want to refurbish the rocker cover on the 405, but its made from magnesium. I also have a few other magnesium parts for another project that I need to paint too. Does anyone know how to go about this? Will standard paints do the job, or does it have to be specialist primers etc?
Thanks

it's magnesium alloy, meaning it's a magnesium and aluminium mix, normal preping, use a zinc primer first and lightly, then prime with a primer and paint

Alloy doesn't necessarily mean Aluminium is used Bibstar;), but in this case I think you're right(y) Thanks for the info

An alloy is any substance made up of two or more metals, not meaning it one of them is Aluminium as ryan says.

Ordinary paint should do the job. Had my magnesium bellhousing on my race car painted black about 4 years ago now and it hasn't flaked yet, and it gets some abuse!
