Insurance? I remember the explanation that before on private roads everything was above board with you policy. This would change things?

Try as your on a track now as such. It's got to dangerous and it's an accident waiting to happen,shame tho as its a good event.

It would not be covered by a road risks standard policy. On private ground the organiser would have a public liability policy in place, for injury to public etc, damage to vehicles and you're on your own.
