My SIL has landed round here and mentioned an issue with her discovery sport. The rear passenger side footwell is soaking and the rear fan outlet on the b pillar is gargling when the air blows so the vent must be full of water. It has a fixed panoramic glass roof. Likely a leak from above ?

I've heard CH LR have had to farm work out as they've no capacity/ramps because they're that backlogged

Easiest way of knowing is the old fashioned hose test with somebody inside

What are the issues?

@Robin_Hood - ring LR assist today and they will be out with you in the next couple of days and sort all the issues. No knowledge of the parking sensor issue but I haven’t worked for JLR since Nov

Burst fuel hose
Park brake fault
Cruise control not available
Parking sensors not working
Drivers side washer not spraying
Judder when braking
Noisy auxiliary belt

Sorry it was only 7 issues, my bad!

Earliest date I could get was mid June, but then when she broke down that problem became solved 😂

Did you buy it approved used? Sounds like awful vehicle prep

Well the disco joined the club last week, leaving me stranded on the m1 2 years of doing nothing I suppose it's due some tlc

I knew as soon as she shut off with a rattle it was the crank got her home and started tearing apart

no surprises broke between the 1st and 2nd main where they all go engine clean as a while every journal spotless, this is the upgraded gen 2 engine also.

Spent the weekend cleaning tidying and preventative work like rear brake lines and copper greasing akward bolts.

I thought I'd a tick in the engine before while pulling the injectors to make it handy later if I had to change em I found the issue. Recut the seat and I'll get them tested.

So what's next I'm not sure going to price a crank shells oil pump etc tomorrow. There's alot of options out there I'll have to get some advice on which is best. The top end and block seem fairly unscathed but I'll need to dig in further to be sure.

It's made my week interesting anyway but it's looking expensive Lol.

Fair play getting stuck in. Hope you are able to find good quality parts to repair with.

Bit of an update, im learning alot about the SDv6, new crank bought and fitted. Unfortunaly it wasnt running as smooth as id like in the block, so stripped the entire engine and sent it off for machining the mains. Hopefully get it back soon,

Ive bought another burnt one for the engine block to build a spare short block for myself just in case :p. Because whats better than one broken discovery... 2 broken discoverys... except ive already 3 broken discoverys in the yard lol.

New oil pump gaskets water pump timing belts etc all bought.

Also took into replacing the rear upper arms as its handier now.

Cheers,

On the new V6 engines has LR actually fixed whatever issue there is with the V6 engine?

Well its not a landrover engine its a PSA ford cooperation effort. They havent fundemtally changed it, they released a gen 2 version... which is what mine is.... the new landrovers upto recently still use it and the new ford rangers and amaroks are using it as well as the ford F150 in the states jag etc..

When you actually have the bits in your hand I just cant fathom how adding 20mm to the engine to increase the crank thickness and spread the bores couldnt have made sense in the applications they where using it for. I think it was originally designed by PSA to be a FWD laterally mounted engine hence its compact design.

For refrence my crank.

Anything
My new to me TDV8 sport.
Sold the prefacelift I had for a few weeks, and picked this non runner up in England. Sold as a crank no start, I brought it home and put a battery in it, boom it started..

Turns out it had rotten ACE pipes. Shorter belt fitted the same day and that was that bypassed for now.
Put approx 100 miles on it and then the reason it was parked appeared- leaking diesel from drivers side of the engine.

Leak off pipes looked to be the culprit, so ordered x4 seals from LandRover at an eye watering £10.20, and fitted them. Now running and driving perfectly 👌

PXL_20240423_180607431.jpg

Fitted some new wheels too

Super happy with it so far. Have the cable coming so I can code out the ACE system, and then once that's done I'll get some standard ARB's in it. Incredible driving thing for the small investment it was, and a big step up from the pre facelift cars in my opinion

Same engine in the Jaguar XF and XJ, although the crank only seems to go on 4WD models.

The weight of a disco / rr is so underestimated, properly huge big things. Maintenance is always going to compare badly to cars carrying over a ton less (doesn't excuse the engine failures all the same haha).

Disco 3's are seriously cheap atm though with all the engine horror stories.
