Sure you had seats in it for the last one, they'll do! Get it taxed & come on for that laugh!

the forest will be an interesting test of the new Kuhmo tyres, which are sadly the eco KH rather than the performance KU thanks to incompetency. Definitely bringing 2 spares. (tyres, not cars).

Looking forward to this rightly, also our first time out in an MX5. Is a sump gaurd vital (standard ride height). I've fab'ed one up out of of alluminium plate but doubt it will take any serious abuse.

On a side note, would any of you MX5 lads know where I could source a 13mm bolt that holds the caliper to the cairrier/slider pin. Its off the bigger brake set up. Was checking over the car and noticed it missing, ordered one off Autolink but they sent me the wrong thing and now I'm panicking incase it does'nt arrive in time.

Check gumtree, someone in Armagh is breaking one. They may have the bolt for you?

I have only done one Lanes before, in an MX5 too & went into a really rough dip far too fast twice, (same stage, both runs over it) with no guard & no burst sump, but it's worth fitting one to be safe. I intend to!

Welcome to the MX5 club!.. They'll be segregating us into a separate 'MX Challenge' at this rate!

I'd say you'd ok without a sump guard, If you've any doubt about the one you've made up then maybe best leave it off in case it gets ripped off and ends up doing more harm than good?.. I know a few people who run without and I haven't heard any horror stories yet.

As for the caliper bolt, could be worth checking a main dealer in the off chance it's actually in stock and sensibly priced, or try David Cousins down the Ards Peninsula (Groomsport I think), he rents out a couple of MX5's for Kirkiston track days and has broken lots for spares etc. Very helpful and he's on Facebook as 'East Engineering MX5 Parts' and contact number is 07955870274.

Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to seeing all the non MX5 entrys on Saturday like the Escorts , Mini's, Midgets etc, and also wondering if 'Kermit the Saab' is one of the old V4 or 3 cyl 2 stroke ones by any chance!..

..Right!.. Better go and actually check our own chariot over!:confounded:

Kermit the saab is a v4 coming from Scotland.
So many mx5s this year right enough, last year we only had 16 entered and thought that was a lot!

I'm planning on bringing a positively eclectic mix of tyres. Some say its called planning for all conditions..... I say, its desperately rounding up what I have left after puncturing everything else in sight!

Really looking forward to getting out again. Seems like its been ages.

I see you are on the entry list in "Paul the Pug", I thought Paul was dead?

Thanks for that DavyC.

Another question, what do you do for a spare wheel, just use the "get you home" tyre and a can of tyre weld? I can't get a 16" spare in the boot!

I think theres an updated one which will be put out tonight alongside final instructions 2 which has some other name :p

Thank goodness for that. Geoffrey is ready and willing..... but Paul nearly turned in his grave when he found out. His wheels would have fallen clean off in shock. If he had any.

It's a fine art in an MX5, I think I managed a 195/50x15 spare & the space saver both in the boot before!

So... This is all totally new to me. What's the idea with the lanes rallies? Fastest time or something?

Yes, pretty much. Fastest time over a series of tests, with least time penalties. Its a cross between rally sprint, & basic autotest with some navigation along the way too

Great value Entry-level Motorsport!!

Flip! Fair play to them for trekking over! In reality we'll see next to none of these old cars in action unless we're queued behind one at the start of a test. Will have to rely on Peespeed and other photographers for some action shots!.. Some spectator footage would be nice too if anyone knows or gets talking to anyone recording (being carefull what areas of private land they're recording of course!)

@swervygerdy Yeah it's a tight fit, I've also tried the 195 50 15 + space saver combo, but might try two 185 65 14's instead. I'm surprised the 16" doesnt go in!.. Take it you're in a later Mk2.5 Sport or similar with 215 45 16?.. Does that mean once you've your space saver put on, you then cant put the punctured 16" in the boot?!.. lol!..

Would anyone be able to forward on the final instructions to crothers_david@hotmail.com ?.. D1ckhead here stuck his work email on the entry form not realizing he'd be off!

Its like a Crystal Maze challenge trying to get it all packed in with the lid shut in a hurry to get to the next test!... I've just failed the two 185 60 14" challenge!... One full size spare + space saver is as good as it gets in an MX5!... Unless of course one gets oneself a genuine Mazda Luggage rack!... hhhmmm!

@ace275 is yours a turbo'ed one or have I confused you with someone else? I think the regs forbid forced induction.

Yep forced induction and 4 wheel drive not allowed. However the way a lot of modern cars are going it could change in the future.

I actually put the rear seat back into my car last night so that the 2 spares were more secure. they were just sliding about in the boot all on their own.
