Guys, I have a Golf R on order and am trying to work out the easiest way for me to get it to NI. The dealer can deliver anywhere in England. It looks like the Stena Line freight service from Birkenhead to Belfast might be a good option as they specialise in unaccompanied car transport for new vehicles (cost is around £200).

Has anyone used this service before or recommend similar? I'd prefer not to have to head over myself if it can be avoided.

Thanks

I used InterDealer Movements in Belfast for bringing my R across, cost £125

That's a great price Chris, what way did it work with your lease documents? Could Inter dealer sign on your behalf?

I'm flying to Birmingham, taxi to the dealer's to pick up the R and then heading straight to Alton Towers then it's either the Liverpool ferry to Belfast that night or Cairnryan ferry the next day. Any excuse for a wee road trip.

I think this thread shows the difference in a car your leasing and a car your buying
If you have no interest in going collecting it yourself

Not necessarily

Some people havent the time or patience for the hassle. Others hate flying.

I hate flying.

Would you not just get it delivered to Liverpool dock and just get the boat over as a foot passenger from dublin and back with the car?

We made a weekend out of collecting ours and just flew / drove / ferry back.

the main reason for viewing a used car in person is in case there is a problem/its a dose of crap with awesome pics. With a lease car you have signed on the line and its yours. Its also under full manufacturers warranty so no risk.

don't see the problem at all

Not a problem as such, just shows seems to loose the personal touch of wanting your new car
Maybe it's just me :grinning:

A drive from one end of England to the other is hardly the most exciting road trip either.

Nope. Gets mildly interesting if it's something cheap and it's touch and go if it'll make it. Otherwise I see nothing exciting about cruising up a motorway for 5+ hours.
The old, "what the feck was that noise?" Volume on radio up, and carry on.

Bought a 4.0 XJ at £127 off eBay with years MOT but listed as 'spares/repairs'. Lifted it in London and spent at least 15 minutes at each petrol station on the way home to fix something else that broke. No tools either. Decent enough banter thinking back. Driving the A4 from Yeovil to Cairnryan was not very interesting at all.

If England are the only choices then that place Chris Mac suggested might be best. Some companies need you to be there to sign for the car though? Unless they allow the 3rd party to do that.

same, if I was buying a new car from hursts Id not want to fly to liverpool for it.

But the car in question isnt coming from Hursts though, it's coming from the mainland 8-(.

We'll agree to disagree then. The drive home with my last 4 cars has been fantastic. The whole excitement of the day, then grinning from ear to ear all the way to the boat.

Getting it delivered to the dock on this side, 20mins from home is a bit crap to be honest.

Its a new car, it doesn't matter where it comes from. A used car is only for sale by that one person so you have no choice but to go and get it. Unless you get it shipped over then its a big risk that its not a dose.

When my A4 was due for delivery I had it shipped over from Birkenhead on Stena Freight. Was an absolute gift start to finish. I've a head like a sieve though and can't remember how much it cost, even though it was only a month and a half ago.

But the only reason I had it shipped over was because the dealership wouldn't allow me to collect on a Saturday and I didn't want to take the time off work to go over midweek.
