what all do you need to look for when buying one? any guides out on the web?

my mates bro is bringing back a UK Type R which im gonna have a look at with the idea of buying. he's also bring back an escort cossie but thats outta my price range.

i dont know the in's & out's of these integra's - so is there any specific things i should be looking for apart from the usual general car stuff u apply to all cars! - i assume they are pretty bullet proof

how else can you tell an import from a UK car apart from the front headlight setup - as ive seen imports with UK front end on them

is the Milano Red hard to keep? i.e. will it turn pink? i swore id never have another red car because of the upkeep the golf requires but the integra was always gonna be the exception.

also, if push came to shove & i like what i seen would one of the 'teg boys fancy coming out to cast their eye over it just incase i missed something?

golf is staying also, dont think i could ever part with it

Just sold one on Wed mate, pity as you would have been welcome to look round to accustom yourself to one.

They're generally bulletproof cars but if there are any weak points it's clutches and gearboxes - they can go so look out for notchy synchros, short clutch, etc. I would look for one with dealer history - there's no shortage of them - as at least then you'll be assured that the proper recommended oils have been used for the drivetrain and engine. In any event, FSH is a must - Hondas are very reliable but only if they've had regular oil changes.

Timing belt should have been done at 60k or 3 years.

UK cars came out in 1998 so if you see a '97 Type R' it's definitely an import. Look for the fog light missing from rear bumper and for some reason, Jap ones always seem to have different steering wheels. AFAIK the earlier JDM integras also use different springs etc to later ones which the 98+ UK model mirrors. Wheel fitments are 4-stud on early JDM Cars, post 98 are 5-stud like the UK one. Obviouly JDM cars are also mapped for higher octane fuel so produce more power allegedly.

Can't vouch for Milano red as never had one, in saying that there's one I see a girl driving daily on the Boucher Road which doesn't seem to see too much polish and it's still very bright :p

p.s. seat bolsters tend to go on driver's seats but you probably know this, there are guys who will repair them for £80 or you can just buy the bolster yourself from capital seating for £30 and spend an hour on it.

All broken
- Look for rust round the edges of the rear arches. The rubber strip round the lip tends to keep the moisture in.
- Make sure diff is ok. It may groan a little at full lock, but usually new oil keeps it quiet again.
- Clutches seem to go at 60k but are cheap enough to replace.
- Post '98 UK cars have a nicer Momo wheel

www.itr-dc2.com is your friend.

Milano red isn't hard to keep imo. If you keep it clean and polish it every few months it is fine. Only thing is the wing mirrors and spoiler seem to fade a little.

Awesome cars btw.

I looked at 6 and seen one good one between dodgy gearboxes, rusty arches, clocking and no service history and badly worn inside.. The only good one was kevins in lisburn.

Edit. Out of 6 the only good one was Keiths in banbridge....Not kevin, got his name/location mistaken,. Anyone wanting a good integra. Keiths below is stupidly mint and a propper car at good money. No need for a mainalnd trip when its sitting right here.

No dents, no rust, standard, mint interior, underside, Stupid amounts of history.

Probably one of the best cars I have ever driven. The agressive power delivery coupled with the feel and poise of the car will put a smile on any drivers face. Good luck with the inspection.

Think Gaz and Andy pretty much summed it up, very occassionally you MIGHT find a gearbox with synchro problem and the rear arch mention...

Also i think im right in sayin no jap imports had an immobilzer key like UK ones, or carbon button switches... Another way to tell perhaps... (y)

best car i still own ;)

usual used car checks, gear box as gaz says, and its easy to see a well cared for one, theres tons of dogs kicking about sho0uting "i`m mint i am"

probably been said but if its UK, make sure its got 2 keys and a red key, and if it has the oem alarm, it`ll have 2 fobs... tho the oem alarm is turd

i bought mine form steveyturbo with no service history, bar what he`d done in 18months... and the motor has never ever let me down in over 3 years... but then again it was in near showroom condition when i bought it, i could ahve ate me t off the underside.

tbh, even the doggy as **** ones are worth their money

providing you get it cheap enough, no other car i can think of for the money i would rather own

infact i intend buying a rough JDm 96 spec, cos they are cheap and fun, something i can chuck about and not worry about too much, use it as a workhorse

The thing about Hondas is that they hide abuse so well. I've been through 13 or 14 Hondas now and asides from cosmetic condition (which is to be expected), there's little to distinguish a 100k miler from a 40k miler.

Get into a french car with 100k and the gearbox will be heading for West Australia, it will rattle like a skeleton having a tommy tank and the suspension will feel like there is none. So I have to agree with ninek, even a dodgy Integra can still be a good car provided the money is right.

ive had 4 now and 18 hondas in total and intend in having a few more over the next few years excellent motor as ollie sez both origional keys and red one if its a uk is important, and i would be inclined to get one one with a good history oh and jap headlights are way cooler infact jap in my eyes are a safer bet as you dont have the rust to worry about on fresh imports theyr also lighter and on high octaine quicker, i also find a flakey rocker cover a good way of telling wether its high miles or had a hard life ie if rocker is flaking badly and there is only 50k on it walk away its bound 2 be clocked

my 2nd type r had a slightly flakey cover and it only had 44k on it ferret....a quick blast with a powerwasher will soon lift the paint off a new rocker cover......as honda only put one coat of paint on the covers with no undercoat........;)

Watch out for hardened valve stem oil seals. Makes them drink the oil big time and will burn it off with smoke out the back on the vtec.

Ive Powerwashed Many A Rocker Sheamy Its The Aluminium That Corrodes Causing The Loose Paint If You Inspect Where The Paint Came Off You Would Find The Alu Blotchy ( Corrosion) Wether Its Due To Moisture , Heat, Raking Etc Im Not 100% Sure But Its Fact That Most High Miler Vtecs Suffer From This ....
