I'd be replacing the throttle body housing and inlet manifold. The whole set-up will be around £40.

I had a 206 in last year which had the very same problem. Previous mechanics had replaced Map Sensor, idle control valve, AFM, cleaned the inlet etc, and 1 even went as far as replacing the ECU and key reader. It turned out a guy had serviced the car and knew about the problem with the build-up on the inlet, so he cleaned the throttle body with a screwdriver and a rag with a drop of WD40 while servicing the rest of the car, which ended up in a few fine/tiny scratches in the inlet meaning a small amount of air was getting past the butterfly flap. A slight oversight on his behalf (a fine screwdriver with a rag on the end of it can be ideal for some applications, but not this 1) which cost the owner hundreds.

While we were at it, we replaced 1 of the sensors on the throttle body too, as it was also a known fault in that model, but the car ran fine instantly with the new inlet and immediate gaskets replaced (y)

I've been having this problem with my Corsa. Will randomly die, starts back up again, loses revs and dies again. Funny thing is, It will do it for 5-6 times in a row, then not again for a whole day, week or longer ;/

I'd be bringing it to a decent mechanic rather than replacing random parts.

hi,

i have been reading all your messages and it seems i have the same problem with a Yreg Peugeot 1.1 that i bought recently, it is exactly the same problem because mine cuts out when i put down the clutch or at traffic lights and roundabouts.

can you or please anyone else who had this help me if you have sorted the problem.

again, burn it (y)

have you had the same problem? well it is really starting to get to my nerves and i dont have a clue of what to do, the mechanic read the MAP fault and changed it but never helped like many people in here.

I dont know what you mean with idling, but basically the car is running perfect but the EML is constantly on and a complete loss of electrical power occurs when i depress my clutch, at roundabouts, traffic lights and at low speed e.g. when im reversing.

you dont know what idling is? when you start the car does it sit and tick over of its own accord or does it cut out?

coil pack, bad plugs or leads, have you had it plugged in to diagnostics?

If they're read the code and it returned Map Sensor, I would imagine they have... (y)

As said already in this thread, it could be numerous things.

A vacuum leak - there is a lot of small pipes around the engine that carry air to different sensors and parts, and if any of these small pipes have spilt or came loose it will have the same symptoms as your having.

Inlet manifold could be cracked - again, a small hair line crack or a perished gasket in this could be allowing unmetered air into the engine which would cause it the ECU (Engine Control Unit/Brain) to try and correct itself unsuccessfully.

Air flow meter - This sensor monitors how much air goes into the engine, and the car's ECU/brain will add the appropriate amounts of fuel to compensate. If this part fails or starts to send the wrong signal to the brain, it will bring the engine management light on, as you are experiencing.

Timing - The engine's timing is controlled by a belt or a chain, and this keeps all the crucial parts of the engine running in sync with 1 and other. If this belt or chain has stretched at all, the mechanical parts could be running at different 'times' and cause the engine to run badly, cut out, bring on dash lights etc, and in the worst case scenario, it could cause the engine to fail.

Basically, it could be a matter of replacing 1 part and it would be sorted, or it could well be a series of trial and error trouble shooting. Take it to someone that works on and specialises in Peugeots for the best chance of sorting it (y)

Yeah, the air flow meter can be removed and cleaned with a couple of quick blasts of brake cleaner, or even carb cleaner.

The throttle body on these is very easily scratched though, as per my previous thread at the top of the page. You need to be careful when working around those plastic inlets (y)

also was the car sitting for a while ? in a dealers yard or driveway?

i think thats what happened with me as the inside was nearly going to run away :p

so i think a lot of mould and gunk would gather and grow on the sensors and throttle body which would affect the readings and infect the air being sucked through?
