thats a cracking pic @swansty ! Nearly looks like you know what your doing and everything!

As for tyre pressures. Whats that? :p. It all depends on the weather, the time of day and the surface your on. I carefully look at each of these factors and then decide on '30' as its a nice round number and easy to read from a distance on those wee machines at petrol stations.

I sat behind 1 unnamed competitor on saturday who got their gauge and compressor out at one point. I might have been using the time to eat a snickers or mentally cancel out the number of decibels assaulting my ears at the time, I can't remember.

@DavyC , whilst I appreciate your kind offer of those superb tyres.... I'll politely decline, as I had a grand total of ZERO punctures on saturday. I tried 2 'Sportway R1+' tyres, which are a remould, used as the control tyre on the endurance series in England. They don't have an aggressive knobbly pattern, but they do have heavily re-enforced sidewalls. Seemed to work on my heavy front end. very pleased with them.

@RComms ..thats a pretty mundane attempt at cornering from me there!.. Could we swap it out for the 'ropey jump' one past @peespeed?!.. lol!

..Another random one, but there's a work collegue has landed in this morning with bleeding ears after a big blue Pug went past him!.. How did you's hear each other inside that?!!! Must have sounded awesome tho!

Flip me @DavyC , your very demanding :p. Updated it there. I highly recommend that anyone hits up @peespeed to get a copy of any photos they want. Very reasonable prices considering how far he is travelling, and great to have someone covering the events (y).

It was totally impossible to hear each other in the tests. @neildaanderson had to resort to hand signals for stop boxes, controls and directions. It worked pretty well until I totally missed a stop box and got a max. doh. In the tests, it wasn't do bad... i kinda forgot about it and hammered on. By the time I got home though, I thought someone had killed my ears. The M1 was a particular high point +o(.

On the subject of knackered cars. We had a convoy of them on sunday. My dads triumph with no exhaust, my mx5 with no exhaust or chassis rails or left front indicator and the 2 scottish cars which were both on trailers but both not perfect, the saab is overheating and had a broken exhaust and the mk1 escort has a now very loose front cross member.

Think i now need to get off my arse and actually enter a few. With the spare mx5 all the same and not the daily :p

Fixed. again. maybe... Its not my fault there are a Gillizion MX-5's at these things. Not to coin an inappropriate phrase, but... you's all look the same to me!

saying that... your jump is much more respectable!

..Well, almost, image 601 is a little more dramatic!:p lol!..It's fine tho! I know what you mean, I'm sure it's a bit repeatitive for anyone watching one MX after another!

One interesting point (in my opinion) if you look at the results 1st and 2nd overall as you would expect were Eamonn and Daniel Byrne both in (very standard looking but trick) Starlets, but 3rd and 4th were the MG Midgets of John Kelly and David Cochrane (trick as well). Where were all the unbreakable MX5s? Also Danny was the only person to beat any bogey time and that was only once.
Davy, whilst I understand your point regarding the MX5s the event isn't run for spectators but for the fun you get from grassroots motorsport, and hairdresser jokes don't go out of fashion!

I cant imagine having much fun in a (no-matter how trick) fwd Starlet. Not really my thing, even with the podium/trophy prospects... :p

Quite a sum of money tied up in the (trick) Midgets, they probably deserved results. You reap what you sow!

The MX5 drivers were the out having a bit of craic, show-boating for marshals, grazing quarter-panels and pebble-dashing trees!! They cant be beat for smiles-per-pound. I didnt stop grinning all day and the sum of my prep was a cheap car-wash and £40 unleaded!! lol

In that respect, I maybe deserved my DNF, but my trouble was solved with a set of jump-leads and I drove the 70mile trip home, no trailer required!! :grinning:

Youd be surprised how much fun can be had in fwd (untricked saxo) on gravel with a hydraulic handbrake to assist. I don't think I have ever been as sideways on an event previously, though that was mostly due to trying to outrun @RComms, some red mist and approaching corners far too fast and basically pulling the wand, steering, praying and somehow getting round. I do fancy a run in something rwd at some point to see how much I would crash.

Im not knocking FWD one bit, I used to have mighty craic left-foot braking on wet shale in 1200 Nova's when I worked at Alltrak many moons ago, I thought I was Jean Ragnotti! But a day out in a boggo-looking Starlet on steelies wouldnt really light me up, as good a car as it may be!

I have to admit to not really knowing 'who was who' when we started out and was surprised at some of the 'older generation' and the 'plain jane' cars they were competing in!.. Fairly opened my eyes realizing we're out among some very experienced autotest / rally pro's in some well specced machinery!...
I'm not sure what happened to a couple of the top MX's?

Whilst I'd love to be out in something old / classic the reality is I couldnt afford it (roll out the violins!).. so I'm grateful to be out in the MX5 getting cheap RWD action. It's the first car I've bought just to 'do a job' yet we've both totally fallen for it.. Definately an MX5 convert now!... and I'm even coming round to some womens clothing!... Topping up my lipstick half way through a test still needs some more practice tho!.. Looked more like Coco the Clown after Letterbin 3!..

..Oh aye Kevin!.. It's all coming out now!.. Beating myself up because I couldnt get away from you 'amateurs'!.. lol!

Good point there Davy, Our wee club does attract a good mix of drivers from ex champions to 1st timers. I think that has got to be a good thing. The 'older generation' and the 'plain jane' cars they were competing in!.. are always on hand to give a bit of advice and help if asked. They wouldn't be changing their holiday plans to do the rally if they didn't like what we give them.
