.."I'll just be taking it handy"... Everyone says that!
The car will do grand, and the sump guard could earn its keep.
Have a look back at page 34... I attached a pdf file of a few examples of tests... Just to give you a rough idea. Take as much or as little from our notes as you want... Don't be afraid to experiment with what works best for you's tho.

Cheers Davy, will take a look back now! Hadn't realised there were samples posted previously :grinning:

I'm only in the nav seat, no doubt 'handy' won't exactly be the outcome on the day. Take it handy for the first test anyway ;)

EDIT: Just looked at your scans Davy, that was a great help! Gives me some sort of idea what to expect as I honestly hadn't the first notion lol.

.. So, there's a performance the pair of us will want to forget! lol.. Dont think we have had failed a test on a Targa since Dungannon two years ago, then we go and fail 3 in the morning loop on Saturday!.. oh, and get a puncture (easy done on Uniroyals), and clip a fence post. We went better in the afternoon but really shows that you just cant afford to fail a test on these events.

All in all it was a great event with only one test location from last years event being used. Great variety of surfaces including a blast through a quarry (if a bit rough at one point tho), and that was our 1st experience of Carryduff Building Supplies' yard which was really slippy in some parts and surprisinly grippy in others... found it hard to judge the grip levels though there.

@PaulYDP , What did you make of your 1st Targa? Think I seen a few pics of a red Mk4 astra?... It would have been a handful in the really tight 'Model Farm' test... Fair play to any team getting a bigger car through there!

We didn't have the best of runs on Saturday but I enjoyed it for our first run out. Would have preferred a few less road miles but not much you can do about that really! Sounds like you had an eventful day anyway.

The quarry was really rough in places but probably one of the best tests! Something happened the front right brake caliper going through it the first time and it was binding really bad, steam was flying out the wheel when we got back to mid point of the first loop. We ploughed on though and on the 2nd run through the quarry it magically freed itself so something must have been lodged in it. We made a mess of that test the first time through and dropped over 10 seconds but had a decent second run. We also had a puncture, burst a tyre somewhere in Brian's yard on the first run through but did an F1 style pit stop at the end of the test!

Model Farm was so tight, especially the hairpin left (possibly pylon B?) On the first run through we had to reverse both times to get round in there but managed it on the 2nd run and took 9 seconds off the time! Some how we managed to get a 60 second penalty on test 5 (jump start from looking at the regs) and we really aren't sure how we got it as we don't remember jumping the start! The red mk4 astra was indeed us, it's definitely not an ideal car for it but we knew that before we started - this was just a go at them before deciding if we'd stick at them or not and if we do then something more nimble will be purchased.

We never got a go at the Carryduff test, they cancelled it the first time while we were sitting at the start line and then never ran it the second time. From looking at some of the clips online it looked really slipping in places!

I agree that we seemed to be on the road more this year, and with the two cancelled tests, the winning car came home with a total time under 800 seconds I think. There is normally more 'test time vs road time' in the Targas tho so dont let that put you off just yet.

Go out and get yourselves an MX5 before they're all snapped up!... or all wrecked.

I saw the results on Saturday night and thought something must have gone a wee bit wrong @DavyC :worried:
Ah well, all part of the sport as they say, I'm sure you'll have a better run out next time. I might have hit a few obstacles last week at the MGCC autosolo, well, 2 pins, a pile of tyres and erm, a wall but we still had a good day's craic. This is why I'm not keen on getting anything too clean and tidy for these events as there's always a chance of doing some serious damage but I'm going to do some more work to the MG before the boxing day event to straighten her out a bit and raise the front end to keep us above some of the rocks..
I got a pair of R1R's for the front after we punctured at larne but the difference between front and rear grip is what caused some of the hits at Dundrod...
Hard to gauge what's right sometimes.

I'm really glad to hear that about the test vs road time! At times it felt like we were doing a 40 second test and then another 20 - 25 minutes on the road!

I actually have an MX-5 sitting at home (it was actually there on Saturday parked up) but it's not suitable for the tests the way it sits as I'd end up with a few bits less of bodywork I reckon if the tests on Saturday were anything to go by!

Will definitely get out for another go at these, hopefully in a different car but we'll see.

Hi, just seen I'm on the reserve list for the MADMC rally this Saturday. I wonder will they let any reserves out, I'm No.64. I really need to get my entry in a lot earlier but the events have got so popular the entries are full in no time.

I heard they're running 75 but i cant confirm for sure. The text message was a little unclear. I'm expecting the seeded entry list and details to be uploaded very soon. But one things for sure these events are getting more popular all the time. Ballynahinch and magherafelt running 2 weeks in a row and one got 77 and the other around 80.

I was caught out too with not getting the entry in sharp enough. I rang and was told they're having meetings and trying rejig schedules etc to find a way of running all reserves too.. Didn't want to say to get folks hopes up before it was confirmed. Keep an eye on facebook page/website for updates.
Appreciating the organising that must go into these events all the more now.

What did you's think of it? I had a bad day to say the least. Bogged for an hour in Barnside and then had a puncture and the spare then went very soft aswell on the last loop with no more spares and didnt bother going to hendersons lane. Got 2 or 3 10 second penalties for not stopping astride which I though where all harsh. Tests weren't bad just maybe wrong time of year to use one or two of them. Glenshane was one of the best tests I've done all year.

I see @DavyC made up for last week's showing with a 2nd OA at Magherafelt. (y)
Great stuff!
Glenview Trophies Targa Rally results
Cheers Fergus! Just about makes up for Ballynahinch's morning shambles. There was a bit of luck on our side with some mistakes in the 1st test being 'hidden' by the easily beatable bogey time. We'd a rubbish run through the very 1st test but thanks to the bogey, we really only lost a couple of seconds I think.

@peespeed , what is it with you and that camera!!!?.. Truth be told, I spot a scrap golf in the middle of the forest and just cant help myself!... Spare set of alloys perhaps?!.. Specially heat treated too!

The event was really good. Some really tricky conditions with 'hard to read' surfaces again, Hendersons Lane test was mostly wet concrete which would be fine with the Uniroyals, but add just a handfull of leaves and it was like an ice rink! I had to pick between a tree or a chicane on the last run through, so thought a 5 second penalty was the better option! lol.

'Jim B's' test was one of the roughest we've seen yet!.. Killed a Uniroyal through there, tho surprised that seems to be all the damage.

The 1st run through the forest was nerve wrecking in the snow but the second time through was class!

A few of the local crews were flying in the morning, but @John_MK5 's luck ran out again with things just going from bad to worse. The pics of you's bogged are funny (get them posted!), but sorry to hear about the other damage.

@Liam Shaw was good to meet you, and sorry you's had to limp home at the very end. It's not a nice feeling cruising round with your one and only spare already used.
