In your opinion these offences should be allowed?

You say theres a lot more the police and bodies could do, have you any suggestions?

There is a word...it is "Priorities"

If something is an actual cause of dangers on the road, then the law and similar bodies should prioritise action against them.
That does not happen

And yes there is a lot more they can do...surely if you're read anything I've posted over the last 4-5 years that would be blatantly obvious ?

You really have a blinkered view stevie. So you are saying the things you mentioned above arent contributing to road deaths? Driving while on the phone, speeding, cars that arent insured or taxed?

No, I have a view of common sense of the blatantly obvious as that IAM report backs up. People were drying on the roads before phones...so are phones all evil ? no. There are many distractions for motorists, why single out phones ? It's just idiotic especially when the phone rules even stretch to cars safely parked up with the engine off, handbrake on....but if your keys are in the ignition you're still flouting that law.
Penalise on driving standards, there are many times when brief phone use is perfectly safe behind the wheel, compared to lighting a cigarette, dealing with children misbehaving in a car etc. What strict rules and points are there to deal with those scenarios ?
Are there any education programs to teach them safer behaviour ?

Millions of people exceed speed limits every day, a small handful may cause accidents. Think about that for a second. Over the last year for example..or even your last few journeys, did you exceed any speed limits ? Did you kill or injure anyone by doing so ?
Those stats would suggest exceeding the speed limit is quite safe under many many circumstances. More probably crash within the speed limits with the main cause as already stated...people failing to use their ****ing eyes and deliberately driving into the path of other vehicles.

Do all non insured or non taxed, or even non MOT'd cars cause crashes and kill people ? No. The vast majority involved in accidents are all legal. Again, think about that for a second. So where should priorities lie ? With a very small minority, or the majority of causes ?
Again, it all comes down to seeking out the incompetent blind p***ks behind the wheel, not the vehicles

In that IAM article...how many accidents are down to defective vehicles etc ? It lists 2.8% of fatals, and largely down to tyres. Which itself comes back to the same root cause. People failing to use their ****ing eyes and check the tyres once in a blue moon.
If you are caught driving a car and didnt know you had badly defective tyres, you really need to lose your license. Is it so difficult to take a few seconds to check ? No.

Improving road safety isnt rocket science...skirting around the causes and dreaming up stupid legislation on a weekly or monthly basis isnt going to fix it when they ignore the real causes. For most part those causes are blind assholes behind the wheel.
Speed cameras and anti speed campaigns will never resolve that huge problem.

Cops on the road could help, cops targeting junctions where blind assholes drive out in front of other cars could help, roadside checks to check for defective drivers instead of defective vehicles could help. They make a huge issue about drink driving, when its the sober drivers who cause most accidents. Again..if they're crashing when sober something is seriously wrong.

They have stupid speed awareness courses for people causing no harm or damage to anyone....yet people who crash etc, they get no form of education or retraining to help prevent them crashing or hurting people again ? That is mental.

Is it any wonder so many people die and get injured on the roads when so many major causes are ignored ? DOE videos are proof of that !

Had to watch that video again, as it's so good and realistic, it really hits home. Anyway something I just noticed, how did the 'limited edition' corsa hit the tractor? Wasn't he in the outside/overtaking lane and the tractor was in the inside lane or was the tractor swerving about?

Are the DOE going to ban swerving, low illuminated tractors?

The corsa probably did a somersault then backflip before hitting the tractor...vauxhalls seem to have a habit of sptontaneous flying when DOE videos are involved

Doesn't come across good for cruisers, to me it shows cruisers are bad, but it's the idiots that are bad

Also insurance doesn't mean anything, just a piece of paper, it doesn't stop unsafe cars, nor bad driving, drunk driving, speeding
It's only to do with the aftermath of an accident
Doesn't prevent an accident

Tax, again means nothing, doesn't do anything against road safety or accidents, just a money thing
Doesn't prevent an accident

MOT, don't think people here understand what an MOT means
All it is is a test one day a year to check your car is safe to drive
Its upto the owner to keep it upto safety standards the other 364 days of the year
And an mot doesn't really mean your car is at high safety standards, just enough to pass an mot
There is probably more cars with no mot that are safer than cars with
Just because it as an mot doesn't mean it's safe to drive on road,
I find people think there car is fine for whole year after getting an mot, think is been serviced and all lol
Cars should be serviced every 6 months

NZ has MOT/Wof every 6 months, don't think it go down well here, be something else to cry about lol

Driving, better ways to spend money and get better results
Some of the money could be put towards places for car cruisers etc to go race legally and safely nights weekends etc
