Things gone quiet in here lately, I see a few familiar names on the entry list for Saturdays Derek Walker Trial organised by the MGCC. Only 17 MX5s  The salons must all be open this weekend  It's great to see the big turnout of older stuff like the Minis and Midgets and the Beetle. Question is, who will come out on top in the Wilson, Corry, Woodside Jnr rematch after the TDC event??? Will @DavyC or Sam Wilson spring a surprise? It's going to be a tough one to call

@peespeed I think our NTBDR result could be a bit misleading with 1/2 the top runners getting caught in a blizzard, and the top MX5 crews either not making it or getting used to new cars!..

As for the DWT, I think our MX is feeling a little outnumbered and intimidated by a few 16V alpha Midgets in the MG pack!.. Those boy's will be in a league of thier own.

We're expecting plenty of mistakes and the odd communication break down, but looking forward to getting out a run among a great entry of crews/cars... Better clean the back window and dust the cobwebs off reverse gear too!... It's going to be interesting!

my only upgrades are to fix 2 broken pistons, a set of bottom end bearings and fit some brakes that work lol

iv never had any problem with bad brakes to be fair, just need fresh pads and discs and fix the two broken bleed nipples on the rear. ive bled through the banjo bolts this past year lol ive always had lethal brakes and hydraulic handbrake.

I get nothing but front lock-up & under steer. The wee car goes well enough but Iv no confidence on the brakes. Dunno whether to sell & get a 1.8 with a Torsen or fit a hydro & bias valve to what I have & plough on

Got the mx through mot finally, just to get a hydro working properly. Would like a proper lsd too but other cars taking the funds first.

Also I find the front locks up on mine occassionally too @KevM.

Should pass dead on. They test the balance on each axle rather than between axles.

Any new cars in the pipeline for this years Targa Rallies or anyone got any fancy/trick upgrades under deveopment

I can sense a lot of laughter coming, but sod it, here's a few pics to show what's going down at BigBudgetDevelopments.com!..

With MOT approaching, the chassis legs needed upgrading on the MX5...

.. Got that cut out and new pieces welded in, but while the anti roll bar mounting brackets were off I decided to try to make the original bar a bit stiffer, just to see what difference it makes...
Extended brackets let the ARB move back..

..so the drop links can pick up on the new holes in the ends of the bar...

..That was lastnight so dont know what to expect yet. I'll either love it and will be sailing round with the inside wheel in the air like them midget boys, or it'll be wick and totally ruin the wee car, in which case I'll move it back to standard.

I had another Blue Peter moment earlier in the year and came up with this beauty!.. (if you laugh you are a bad person!)

The white ducting was just a temporary thing to try it out. Im not sure if the little difference is just in my head or not, so must get a bit of sturdier ducting and try a few with & without test runs sometime. One downside is the loss of the little induction note tho!...:sob:

You can tell the main aim is just to get to as many events as possible... We wont gain many points with a tricked out, budget burner sitting parked at the house.

Meanwhile @KevM ... I hope you just mean it's the end of that car and that there'll be another?!..

Also, on the topic of brakes, like John's, ours have been grand. It'll lock the fronts up well before the rears, but I just put that down to the manufacturer's safe 'road car' set up. The only real time it bugs me is in stop boxes on grippy concrete or tar when im on the handbrake to help, but then stuck for a hand to get back into 1st again. I've wondered if the rear calipers and slighty bigger discs from a Mk2.5 would swap over but havnt looked into it yet.

You might get a pile of understeer firming the front up @DavyC but the cold air feed is the a stroke of genius! :grinning: I heard somewhere that a bias block from a later car will balance front/rear more than earlier systems.

& Yes, I know i'll miss the car and will likely try to find something else. If anyone knows of anything for sale, I'm open to suggestion!

Aye, it's more of a curiosity thing... just 'while I was at it' sort of thing. Our wee targa's are a real mixed bag when it comes to surfaces, diffing round cones in a concrete yard, then on for a blast through a bumpy forest. So the MX's standard set up is maybe as good an all rounder as we'll get.

Hope you do gather up something again. Encourage young Mia to rhyme on and on about how she misses the wee red car, going for ice creams without the roof etc etc...

She has set criteria for the next Mazda Davy, she wants a yellow one. That'll not be one bit camp or anything!!

Mine went last night, I think the guy that bought it is for hitting the lanes too - When I heard that, I got all competitive again. It'd be bad to get beat by your old car!!

I admire the boys strengthening chassis parts etc in the meantime im buying cams and high compression pistons to go fast hoping this will offset bad handling lol

Davy C i would say that you would struggle to get enough air into that thing as the speeds are quite low?

also removing the ARB i think would give you better turning, i know the mates race car turned and cornerd so much better after his ARB snapped on track
