Fair play to them. They will sell with confidence & I bid then all the best.
It took a man from Garvagh to solve a world wide shortage of Mk2 Escorts, and he's not even greedy about it.

Shortage? Sure there are more on the road every year :p Probably more of some model on the road that were actually produced to begin with lol

I’m just back from a week of exhibiting these shells at AutoSport international 2019.

Since being launched 2 years ago they have sold 66 complete shells. We brought over x2 Grp4 fabricated rally shells to display & they were both sold on the first day to Mark from Simmonites Ltd. He doesn’t plan to rally them, he intends to flip them as they are underpriced & he knows the market better.

Over the next 4 days Higgins took orders for a further x6 standard bare shells.

It’s good to see this venture is finally out of the woods & picking up speed at a great rate.

Was looking round them myself of Saturday, not perfect like any non genuine part but a really good solid shell to build a rally car on which is exactly what they are made for.

Still think this is great. Very few would be willing to take the risk on something like this but fair play

As stated earlier in the thread £300k & 3 good original shells sacrificed to make this possible.

As the Mk2 shares the same wheelbase as the Honda S2000 (2400mm) I’m toying with building a road car.

Usually when someone mentions that they want to put a Honda engine into a car, I shudder, as I’ve no love for them, and I’ve no love for vintage Fords either, but in this occasion I reckon it’d be a case of 2 wrongs making a right.

Fergal McGovern is a man you should have a word with. He has done a few floor pan and running gear swaps now, namingly his E36 M3 Manta and an E34 M5 Ascona, both of which turned out fantastically, especially the latter. I believe he was for doing another vehicle the last I heard, but can’t mind the specifics... Definitely a smart man for that kind of job.

The wheel base may be the same but the wider track means big ET on the wheels to get back under the arches. It's odd looking to me. A similar effect when folk have put Escort 4x4 running gear in. Not taking away from the effort that's went into that tho!

I think from a non-ford purist point of view, these are awesome,And surely make far more sense financially, what's the craic with turning these into a road car,is it a case of trying to buy a log book or can it be done via kit car rules?

I’d say a lot of Ford shells that are beyond saving may have their chassis numbers going missing.

If using a brand new shell there is no legal issue with that.
The issue is using a second hand 1.3L shell to build a higher spec model into isn't allowed by law but happens all the time, and hard to prove once its been done.
