I would put the Parent and Baby spaces at the far end of the carparks and make room for more disabled spaces. Nothing wrong with their mobility, yet they get spaces right at the front door :relieved:

Parent/Baby spaces aren't at the doors in all carparks ... in Tescos Ballymena there are some in the wee carpark at the side, and some in the farthest away row. The disabled spaces are all around the doors.

I would make all spaces a decent size - one of the worst carparks in Sainsburys Ballymena - barely any room to open your door once you park.

I would park in a quiet part in a single space. no need to park over 2 spaces. especially the "I dont want to get my door dinged" brigade.

No need to park in a disabled bay but you have no problem doing that :p

If you've ever tried to get a baby chair in or out of a car you will know you definately need more space!
You need room to park a pram / trolly then open the door wide enough to get the chair / carry coat in or out.
All this combined with the fact that its probably raining and you don;t want to get the kid soaked. Havent been to a shopping centre yet where theres been enough parent and baby spaces.

So Stevie, by your argument are disabled spaces discriminating against the able bodied? ;)

No, disabled people arent that way by choice....

Parents are more often than not that way by choice, so they knew what they were getting into. They can park at the far end of the car park, which is usually empty...plenty of space there, and the kids might get some exercise walking across the car park..

lol I dont do that! I recall possibly saying Id park in one and use an ATM or something but thats about it.

as for the parent/baby spaces they are indeed sometimes far away. in tesco newtownabbey they are over to the side. bloody handy they are but by no means essential. spaces are far too small tho, could do with being a foot or two wider.

have kids and parents got bigger this past 20 years? Never knew of a parent and child space when I was a nipper - you opened the door carefully or you got a clout round the back of the head.

I pretty much park miles away everywhere in a single space. Pisses the other half of when it's raining, which is a lot in NI :sob:

j

Lol, my other half is the same. Though it annoys her even when its not raining!

In this circumstance, i can see why the penalty was given. I think taking up 2 spaces in a pay and display car park is pushing it, regardless of how many cars there are.

I too take 2 spaces, though i always ensure i park far enough away from the shop that im not depriving someone else of a space and making them park further away.

I do the two space thing but in FREE carparks

IMO they had the right to fine you but it was a bit harsh!

I am exactly the same, but it also depends on the nature of the car park whether its a general car park or a supermarket one for example, where there are trolleys cruising about etc

Bit harsh indeed, esp when the car park wasnt busy as well....

serves you right imo.

I agree.

Just park in one space ffs...

You could in the other hand leave the motor at home, in the driveway, wrapped in bubble wrap and cotton wool and take the bus. It won't get marked then.

WTF????

well not really, yes we do have a 3yo,but like me she does the 2 space thing.:p

mills road car park in bangor,ie the one where we all went to when we got bucked out from the bottom carpark a few years ago. she parked up "way" up in the corner behind the church.

she payed and displayed, the car park was in the same near "empty" state when she left the car, as it was when she came back,:worried: if i had of got the hold of mr or mrs traffic warden with an id nos of 2006 he/she would deffo have got clipped(y)

happened to me in banbridge ages ago ffs. i paid for 2 hours and was back 30 mins later! car park was 10 % full, daft!

You've obviously never had a new car for one day - taken it to Tesco car park, parked in one space and returned to a huge ding in the door. Rather annoying.

I've had loads of new cars... doesn't mean I had a special right to take up two spaces!

One ding in 11 years BTW - I'll just park in the far corner in one space.

I always park in two spaces. Hopefully if enough people do it the car-park designers will take a hint and make spaces big enough. Or else the clowns who don't care if they bounce their doors of your car might realise that some people like to care about their cars.

Why are car parks not designed to park cars nose to tail anyway. Would make much more sense and people would soon get better at parking which would mean no more sitting behind some doll spend 5 minutes driving her car back and forward trying to get into a space along the side of a road!

It's interesting that as cars grow in size car park spaces stay the same. I mean look at the size of the first generation Renault Clio for example compared to the latest Clio model - definately much bigger in size for a so-called "supermini".

One ding in 11 years BTW - I'll just park in the far corner in one space.

This is all fine and well - I find people are like sheep. Regardless of where you park in the car park there'll always be someone who wants to park beside you. Fine and dandy if it's a Merc or BMW or something but...

Thats a fair point mate. Though 9/10 times they're parking there for the same reason you are (y)

There is the odd cretin though, I agree.

Tough sh!t.

Take your oil.

If it was empty she didn't need to take two spaces anyway.
