They've been the size and weight of endurance racers and GT cars for a while now. Massive even next to the last non-hybrid cars, never mind earlier car. In part due to safety, but mostly to fit all the complex gubbins for the "power unit"...

Current ones look just the bit extra with the bigger wheels and tyres and the front wing style looks longer.

Love the sleeker shape of the current ones tho.

Hopefully in 2026 they can be lighter and shorter, it would improve the racing and the whole look of the racing on tv.

F1 cars need a diet.

What would make them lighter and smaller in 2026? Still using essentially the same "power units", essentially the same amount of gubbins to fit and to lug around?

If anything, F1 is taking the direction of a bigger proportion of energy from the electric part? I imagine that means bigger batteries, etc.?

They are doing away with MGU-H which will hopefully save some weight.

They need to go back down to 13 inch wheels tbh alongside reducing the weight and size of the car.

This nonsense of being more relatable to road cars is a terrible excuse for the wheel sizes I think.

In sure that will save at least 100g 😇

The weight limit was car plus driver excluding fuel, there were some reports pre 2022 testing that alfa and mclaren had met the limit, the overweight teams were petitioning for an increase to minimum weight which got pushed through increasing from 795 to 798kg disadvantaging alfa especially

Hard to believe that cars at the pinnacle of Motorsport have a min weight limit not far off that of hot hatches when they were actually fun (MK1/2 golf, 205 etc)!

Even with all the “aero” fitted to most of those hot hatches? 😄

Another storm in the FIA tea cup. The whole thing seems a bit puzzling. Liberty not holding back the punches though.

In fairness he's inherited a steaming pile, from unenforceable budget rules to sporting regulations too complex to manage. And without enough power to change anything.

Maybe some frustration over that showing through?

I would agree, if it looked remotely like he was determined to improve things. But, well, so far he's looked to be hellbent on making it worse.
